Rick Warren to Be Obama’s Inaugural Buttbuddy, Will Preform the Invocation
It’s not clear why Obama would choose to let this man on stage with him. Now maybe it’s Obama’s Jesus love clouding his judgment, or maybe the man is trying to win over the religious right by whoring his ass out to them. Either way, it’s a major sign of that change you were promised - watch for yourself as the Democratic party changes into an organization that embraces right-wing bigots and spits in the face of the LGBTQ community. Warren does not like gay people, he came out harder than a pornstar’s dong for prop 8. When people call him homophobic, he claims he isn’t - after all you’ve got to ‘love the sinner, hate the sin’. He doesn’t hate gay people - he just wants to destroy their civil rights, legislate their romantic & sexual behavior, and turn them into second class citizens. Don’t worry, he doesn’t hate them, so all that is OK. If you’d like to get in touch with the Obama Transition Team in order to demand a bigot-free inauguration you can email them here. |

Rick Warren gets around; it was only earlier today that an interview popped up in which he called liberal Christians (like Obama) “

Maybe he should call it “Purpose Driven Change”

According to Bill Lobdell in his soon-to-be-released book “Losing My Religion”, Rick Warren (whom he interviewed) is a person of some integrity, regardless of how deluded people like us might think he is. That could be one reason why Obama selected him. But I’m guessing the main reason is that he’s popular, and Obama sees it as both a shrewd political move and a genuine outreach attempt to bring diverse factions of the USA together. I personally haven’t paid much attention to Warren and his stance on gay rights, and therefore concede that you may have a point. I should look into the matter further. A person can be sincere and ethical in many areas while still being ignorant and prejudiced in others. Mike Huckabee is a good example of that, with his stand on biblical creationism. Warren could be a similar case with respect to gay rights.

I’m going to comment on my comment. After thinking about it, my take is that, while there is nothing wrong with reaching out, this was the wrong person at the wrong time. For one thing, the Proposition 8 issue is still a festering wound, and the fact that Warren was a key figure in supporting it, should have been enough to remove him from the list. Very disappointing!!

OK, I have revised my waffling in the first post. BAD IDEA, BARACK!! It could actually alienate the religious right (who would see the choice as insincere pandering) in addition to supporters of gay rights.

Who cares how sincere he is? The guys an active, public bigot, who wants to make discrimination legal, he has no place anywhere people stand for equality.
That said, even though it’s wrong, it’s a brilliant political move. He doesn’t have to make any policy concessions and he makes friends with the right wing. Plus there are way more evangelicals than there are gays, it’s simple numbers, his pandering is better spent here.
