Atheist Sign Stolen From Illinois Capitol Building in Springfield, Christianity Throws ‘Thous Shalt Not Steal’ Under the Bus

Those funky Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) signs sure have an impact on some people; a few individuals seem so struck that they want a sign of their very own - at least that’s why we assume they keep stealing them. The FFRF’s sign in Springfield is the second sign to suffer ‘8th commandment murder’ at the hands of an anonymous individual. The sign was stolen from the Illinois Capitol building sometime between 9:45 pm Monday and 7:00 am Tuesday, as reported by the custodial crew. The Capitol Police (who guard the Capitol 24 hours a day) oddly enough, saw nothing.  The theft is being treated as a criminal matter; the thief will face a criminal charge if they are found.

As always, the Freedom From Religion Foundation will replace the sign, probably held down by more tape this time, and add in a note quoting the 8th commandment of “thou shalt not steal”. The real question has to do with this “thou shalt not steal” sign- how dare the FFRF put up a blatantly religious display?

The Daily Profaner’s Ninja Brings you a Photo Tour of the Washington Capitol Atheist Sign

One of the darker secrets of The Daily Profaner is our secret cadre of clandestine operatives who are sent out on dangerous missions to keep you informed.  Our Washington operative - codenamed Marguerite Duras - has risked her life to infiltrate the battle lines of the war on Christmas and bring you pictures from inside the Washington State Capitol in Olympia.  These pictures aren’t for the faint of heart; the war on Christmas is a bloody one. If you’re brave enough, hit the jump and check out the full gallery.

Ballon Bill O’Reilly Assaults Ballon Gov. Gregoire Over Atheist Sign

Last Sunday about 500 Christians gathered outside the Washington State Capitol to protest the Freedom from Religion Foundation’s atheistical “Winter Solstice” sign.  Joining them was none other than Bill O’Reilly - in balloon form.   Balloon O’Reilly was part of the nativity scene display, and while in it the inflatable O’Reilly proved to have just as much trouble as the flesh-and-blood O’Reilly when it came to keeping his hands off the womenz.  Balloon O’Reilly was seen punching a balloon effigy of Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire in the kisser.

The Christian balloon artist responsible for Balloon O’Reilly demurred when asked how Jesus would feel about the violent display, saying, “That’s spiritually. He’s knocking the sense of God into her.”  Don’t worry baby, he doesn’t mean it, he loves you, it’s just his way.

Christian Activist Group Gears Up to Defend U.S. Capitol From… Nobody

In God We Trust, a conservative advocacy group, is girding its loins to fight over an atheist sign in the Nation’s Capitol.  The only problem? There never has been any atheist sign, there isn’t one now, nor are there any plans for anyone to put one up.  Nonetheless, they are pledging to defend Capitol Hill from mysterious ninjas, godless pirates, and the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF).  The FFRF has engaged in a controversial “Winter Solstice” campaign to reclaim the Winter holidays for the Pagans, which is really nice of them considering they’re atheists and don’t believe in magical solstice holidays.

Member of In God We Trust are no stranger to making asses out of themselves on billboards if their Why Do Atheists Hate America? campaign is any indication.  They claim, “all we want is a public debate”.  In most places debates don’t involve trying to chase the other side out of the country; however ‘debate’ is also a an old southern word that means ‘to lynch’.

Atheist Group Posts Winter Solstice Sign in Springfield

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has posted another Winter Solstice sign, this time in Springfield, Illinois.  Unlike an earlier version of the sign, one of 2 previously put up in 2 different states, this one comes without a poem on the back.  The group states that while they are opposed to both religious and irreligious displays in state capitols, as long as things such as nativity scenes are going to be put up, then Atheists need a voice as well.  The sign is obviously meant to undermine Christmas-based religious propaganda, but using one religion to undermine another isn’t exactly what Atheism is about.

The sign’s creators state that they are reclaiming the Winter Solstice from Christianity, who long ago scheduled Christmas to coincide with it in order to help convert Pagans.  But who are they trying to reclaim the holiday for?  Certainly not themselves; they’re Atheists and as such feel one religious celebration holds just as little meaning as any and all others.

Atheists Strike in Wisconsin State Capitol!

The Freedom From Religion Foundation has struck again.  Their infamous campaign to give Bill O’Reilly an aneurysm has come to the Madison Wisconsin.  For the 13th year in a row, the Wisconsin based organization will put a controversial sign up in the State Capitol for the month of December.  The sign is similar to the sign currently making people harass the Gov. of  Washington.  Except that it has a poem on the back!  So that’s one sign, two signs… five more and we get to see all seven signs of the apocalypse.

Some Jerk Breaks the Eighth Commandment, Steals Washington State Capitol Atheist Sign for Jesus

The Atheist sign in the Washington State Capitol was stolen and later found in a ditch, the sign was turned in to a local radio station.  The Freedom From Religion Foundation(FFRF) was planning on replacing the sign with an nearly identical sign, adding in a note saying “thou shalt not steal.”

This sort of thing is not new to the FFRF, their signs have been stolen, vandalized, even sprayed with acid like an Afghan schoolgirl.  That still doesn’t explain why foundation co-founder Annie Laurie talks about the signs like they’re people:

“It’s always a shock when your sign is censored or stolen or mutilated. It’s not something you get used to.”

Bill O’Reilly Promises Ten Plagues for Washington

In true sheeple tradition we’ll cover this because everyone else is, and you thought not being part of an organized religion made you a free thinker, ha!  Bill O’Reilly is horrifyingly angry at the State Of Washington for allowing the Freedom From Religion Foundation to put up it’s little sign in the capitol building.  At the end of his screaming tirade he demands that Americans call Gov. Gregoire and tell her what they think.  The staff here and I were going to take PZ Meyer’s advice and “write polite, supportive letters“, but we got blitzed on mead, drunk dialed her office on speaker, and demanded that she recognize almighty Thor with a bigass hammer monument.

Atheists Attack Nativity Scene With Free Speech in Washington

The time honored Nativity scene and Christmas tree that take up residence in the Washington State Capitol in Olympia will have a new friend, a sign that says:

“At this season of the Winter Solstice, may reason prevail.”

“There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell.”

“There is only our natural world.”

“Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts”

The sign is sponsored by the Freedom From Religion Foundation which also will also have a billboard in the city proclaiming “Reason’s Greetings”.  The LORD will no doubt smite the bejesus out of Olympia soon.  As usual he is expected to miss, just like every other time he means to wipe San Francisco off the face of the earth and accidentally destroys half the bible belt with tornadoes and hurricanes.

Atheist Billboard Removed By California City

imaginenoreligionbillboard

The Freedom From Religion Foundation’s “Imagine No Religion” billboard in Rancho Cucamonga was taken down at the request of the City.

According to City Redevelopment Director Linda Daniels the city received 90 complaints.  Citizens were worried about the sign negatively impacting children, it is well known that encouraging children to imagine anything is extremely dangerous.
